Balloon safaris are a romantic and evocative way of experiencing the wilderness of East Africa, as you gracefully and silently fly over the plains teeming with herds of wildlife in the early morning. Typically, a balloon safari last two hours and covers several square kilometers of wilderness. Balloon safaris take off from designated sites where the disturbance to animals is kept to a minimum.
Early in the morning, Serengeti Balloon Safaris will collect you from your lodge or camp and transfer you to their launch site. Here you will meet your pilot, receive a briefing, and watch the inflation of your balloon. At dawn you take off, rising as the sun rises and floating in whichever direction the winds of the morning takes you. Your pilot can precisely control the altitude of your balloon: sometimes flying at treetop height, sometimes lower, offering a unique perspective and great photographic opportunities of the wildlife below. Your pilot will use varying altitudes and layers of air to navigate the balloon over this amazing area, pointing out animals as you float along.
After landing, celebrate with a champagne toast before heading off to a special ‘Out of Africa’ breakfast. Breakfast is prepared in the bush and served under an acacia tree. Linen, bone china, Sheffield cutlery and freshly-prepared fare in the company of your fellow passengers make a memorable finale to your adventure.
