Day 1: Tarangire National Park
Location: Tarangire National Park
Meal: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner
Activity: Game drive safari
After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and drive to Tarangire National Park for a full day of game viewing and photographing. Named after the river that flows through the park, Tarangire National Park is one of the lesser-known Tanzanian National Parks, giving it a real air of undiscovered Africa.
Famous for its tree-climbing pythons, massive baobabs, and large herds of elephants, Tarangire National Park is small but still home to a significant wildlife population, with a density of wildlife matched only by Ngorongoro. Birding is particularly good here; the swamps, tinged green year round, are home to 550 bird varieties.
Herds of up to 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest, and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. It's the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem - a smorgasbord for predators – and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly observed.
Maramboi Tented Camp: Maramboi Tented Camp offers permanent camp facilities and endless vistas of rolling golden grasslands and palm-lined desert between Tarangire and Manyara Lake. A visit to the area is essential for anyone interested in evolution and the origins of humankind and an explanation of the Rift Valley and Africa's big picture.
It is a complete semi-desert experience focusing on game drives. An impressive landscape from the Rift Valley gives the visitor an amazing natural welcome to an area extraordinarily rich in wildlife. The camp offers stunning views of the Manyara National Park, Rift Valley, Ngorongoro highlands, and on clear days, even Oldonyo Lengai, a sacred mountain to the Maasai.
Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater
Location: Ngorongoro Crater
Meal: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner
Activity: Game Driver Safari
Today, you will visit the Ngorongoro Crater, the main feature is a large, unbroken, unfolded volcanic caldera. The crater, which formed when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed on itself some two to three million years ago, is mostly open grassland with two small wooded areas dominated by Acacia.
Game drives through the Ngorongoro Crater begin early in the morning in closed safari vehicles with pop–up roofs. Accompanied by an expert driver-guide, a magnificent experience is sure to be had! The descent into the crater is one of scenic beauty, as you make your way through lush forests, home to numerous elephants and buffalo.
As you reach the inside of the Ngorongoro Crater, marveling at the incredible landscape around you, your guide will take you through the grassy crater floor, the unbelievable fever tree forest, the banks of Lake Magadi, and the surrounding marshes. Lunch is served picnic style, surrounded by the natural wonders around you as well as the exceptional wildlife, roaming freely, with which you share this extraordinary paradise.
Rhino Lodge: Rhino Lodge is ideally located on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater rim. The lodge was originally the home of Ngorongoro’s first conservator, and its developers have maintained the house’s original rustic, low-impact style and natural setting.
Day 3: Oldupai, Serengeti
Location: Oldupai, Serengeti
Meal: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner
Activity: Game Drive Safari
After breakfast, leave the Ngorongoro highlands as you drive towards Serengeti via the Oldupai Gorge. You will stop to visit the Oldupai Gorge Museum. This is a canyon carved by water through the southern part of the Serengeti Plain. We will visit the historic site known as "The Cradle of Mankind" where the world-famous archeologist, Dr Leakey, discovered the remains of early man.
You will enjoy a picnic lunch en route and then drive to Serengeti Central to do a game drive safari. The park covers 14,763 km² (5,700 square miles) of grassland plains and savanna as well as riverine forest and woodlands.
Serengeti Katikati Camp: A mobile tented camp located in Central Serengeti, strategically located to cover the vast Serengeti Plains. The camp offers comfortable accommodations and a unique opportunity to enjoy a real safari camp experience. The camp is only a two-hour scenic drive from Oldupai Gorge Museum and Grumeti River. A cozy mess tent is located in the center of the camp where meals are served. The campfire is ready every evening for appetizers and snacks before dinner. 15 tents with en suite facilities.
Day 4: Serengeti National Park
Location: Serengeti National Park
Meal: Breakfast, Picnic Lunch, Dinner
Activity: Game Drive Safari
After breakfast, you will leave the camp and head out to the park with a picnic lunch to track the wild animals. Take your binoculars and your cameras, ready to witness the drama in this African savannah land! As well as the migration of ungulates, the Serengeti National Park is well known for its stock of other resident wildlife, particularly the "Big Five” - lion, leopard, elephant, black rhinoceros & buffalo – as well as cheetahs, Thomson's and Grant's gazelle, topi, elands, waterbucks, hyenas, baboons, impalas, African wild dogs and giraffes.
The park also boasts about 500 bird species, including ostrich, secretary bird, Kori bustard, crowned crane, marabou stork, martial eagle, lovebirds, and many species of vultures. In the evening, you will drive back to the camp just in time to enjoy a drink as you watch the sunset over the Serengeti plains. After a well-deserved shower, you will sit at the camp's mess tent for freshly prepared food for dinner. Overnight at Serengeti Kati Kati Camp.
Day 5: Serengeti/ Arusha
Location: Serengeti/ Arusha
Meal: Breakfast & Lunch
